Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Friday, April 30th, 2010

So I’m upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my home and work computers.  It just went out of beta testing today.  To be honest I’m kinda excited about getting to try it out.  I have been using 9.something for a few weeks now and I really like it.

You can download Ubuntu here.

Genesis 19:27-29

And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the Lord.  And he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley, and he looked and, behold, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace.

So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when he overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.

J.C. Ryle said

How astonishing it is that we do not hate sin more than we do!  Sin is the cause of all the pain and disease in the world.  God did not create us to be ailing and suffering creatures.  It was sin, and nothing but sin, which brought in all the ills that flesh is heir to.  It was sin to which we owe every racking pain, and every loathsome illness, and every humbling weakness to which our poor bodies are liable.  Let us always bear this in mind.  Let us hate sin with a godly hatred.

I think Abraham must have been thinking something like that when he looked down at what was two great cities.  But it is amazing that I do not hate sin more then I do.  I do not hate the sin in my life enough.

Is It Over?

  • Grand dad – He’s doing much better.  Is out of the hospital.  However he is much weaker then when he was before.  My mom came to the conclusion that she could not provide the level of care that he needed.  She asked us if we (Nyssa that is) would be willing to provide for him.  Now I don’t want it to sound like he can’t do anything by himself now.  Thats not the case.  But he does need some extra help.
  • Marci – Is doing great!  To be honest I don’t know how I’ve been blessed by such a great baby
  • House – Is crazy.  Trying to get ready for my grand dad and to finish “baby proofing” (haha, yeah right) the house.  Also on top of all that our air broke yesterday.  We called Mike today and had him come out.  Turns out it was only something small so that was great.  If you ever have air conditioner needs call Mike!
  • Computers – I’m switching over to Ubuntu.  No more Microsoft for me.  To be honest it’s a little weird for me.  I have always been a MS type of guy.  I tried a Unix a long time ago and it was just to hard for me.  Took me like a week to find the CD drive (this was before Google..  How did we ever live without Google?).  But Ubuntu is great.  It’s fast, simple, free…  I like it
  • Diet – So I have been on a diet this year.  So far I have lost about 16 pounds.  It’s not like a “power diet” or anything.  It more focus on eating right.  I have things that I have to eat once a day like -vegetables, fruits, nuts, carrots, whole grain and green tea.  Things that I  got to have at least three times a week – broccoli and yogurt.  Things that I have to eat at least once a week – fish, sweet potato, avocado.  Then things I’m only allowed once a day – meat & cheese.  Only once a week – red meat or pork and dessert.  And I’m never allowed to have soda or fast food.

I think thats about all thats going on right now.  I have today off work.  Was going to go and spend the day with Nyssa, but that did not work out.  I need to get the house ready for grand dad.  So that is what we are doing today.

Genesis 19:23-26

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar.  Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven.  And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.  But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

So in 19:12-14 we talked about how God has mercy not only on Lot but also on his family.  That is one of the foundations of the covenant family.  But as we can see in today’s passage being in the covenant family (the church today) is not enough to save you.

For me I read this passage as a warning.  Marci is part of the church, she was baptized back in February.  This act did bring her into the church and she has many blessings because of that.  Having the Word preached and have it taught to her on a regular basic is a big blessing.  But it is not enough to save her.  Nothing that Pastor Don, Pastor Scot, her Sunday School teachers, Nyssa or my self do can save her.  That is only between her self and God.

So I must not become proud or conceited.  But humbly know that only by God’s grace will Marci come to the Truth.
