ApologetiX in Plant City

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I just wanted to let everyone know that the Christian Parody band ApologetiX will be in Plant City next month on the 19th.  It looks like it might be kinda fun, anyone want to go with?  It’s $10 before the event or $15 at the door. Need to find some one to watch Marci, but I’m sure that will not be to hard :)

Prayer Wall

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

So Nyssa and my self had our first turn at the “Prayer Wall” thing we are doing at church.  I wrote about it a week or two ago with my fears and my hopes for this time.

We had three Scripture versus that we focused on last night and I just wanted to share them.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart

Psalm 37:4

They may see your good deeds and glorify god

1 Peter 2:12

Increasing in the knowledge of God

Colossians 1:10

I know that for the 1 Peter and the Colossians verses that it’s not the whole verse.  But this is just the part that we focused on.  All of Colossians 1:9-14 is a great prayer guide and also sprinkled throughout Colossians 4 are other great prayers for each other.

I just wanted to say that if you get to your time and are not sure how to pray or where to go these verses are a great place to start.

Marci Update – Prayer Request

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Marci is growing bigger and bigger every day!  It is truly amazing to watch her growing up.  Next week she will already be 5 months old!  I can’t believe it.  It seems like just yesterday we were getting the first ultrasound pictures.

Anyways, Marci had a reaction to a Multi-Grain Cereal.  It had in it barley and wheat.  It is our prayer that she is not allergic to wheat because that would be bad.  Nyssa called the doctor today and she said that they will do some test at her 6 months appointment.

Also on a side note we can start to give her baby food now.  So FTW mushy carrots!

Genesis 17:1-14

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.”  Then Abram fell on his face. And God said to him,  “Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations.  No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings shall come from you.  And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.  And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”

And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations.  This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.  You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.  He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant.  Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”

And so the Lord makes His covenant with Abram (now called Abraham) but not just to Abraham.  Also to his children.  What an awesome promise and how much greater it is for including Abraham’s family.  On the 14th (two Sundays ago) my daughter Marci was baptized.  Now as a good presbyterian I believe that baptism is a sign of the covenant between God and people.

A lot of people differ on the whose and hows of baptism and thats okay.  But to be honest with you I don’t understand how any Christian parent could not want their child to become part of the covenant people of God.  And I guess thats why they have “dedications”, the idea and desire of having children become part of the covenant community is so strong that they had to do something.  They just know that it’s wrong to do nothing.  So they make up a unbiblical ritual.

But enough about that, if you want to see some of the promises that baptism (and circumcision back in the BC days) stands for you can read my letter to Marci here.

November to December

You know around Christmas time I always wish we lived up north some where with snow..  Now it’s the end of February and I forgot it was winter until the news showed a story of a huge snow storm up north and I think to my self “Thank God I live in Florida!”
