Genesis 6:17-22

Monday, August 31st, 2009

For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die.  But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.  And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.  Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come in to you to keep them alive.  Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten, and store it up. It shall serve as food for you and for them.”  Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.

I wonder what Noah felt?  Think about putting yourself in his place.  The Lord comes to you and tells you that He will destroy all the earth except for you and your family.  Did Noah try to warn other people?  We are not told but I’m sure that he did, how could he not?

And again Noah is a picture for us.  Just as Noah knew the way of salvation from the flood, we know the way of salvation from the hell of fire.  We must warn people that the judgment is coming..  But there is an arc from this judgment – Jesus Christ.  Trust Him and what He has done for you.  That is that He has taken the punishment for all of your sins.  He paid the price in full.

To Belong To Your Church

Friday, August 28th, 2009
I wrote this several years ago when my church was going through a tough financial time and Pastor Don even called a fast.  We are again at a time of financial hardship but it’s sorta different this time.  Maybe it’s just me but this time it just feels like we are pleading with the people to give more where last time we pleaded with God to provide..
Who will praise You, Father
If these halls are empty
Who will sing to You, Jesus
If music is no longer heard
Who will surrender to You, Holy Spirit
If Your Word is no longer thought
I will praise You, Father
For the communion within these walls
I will raise my hands and sing to You, Jesus
For music is offered to You as worship
I will surrender my all to You, Holy Spirit
For I am being reformed by the Truth of Your Word
O, how wonderful it is, how joyful
To belong to Your Church
Praise the Lord

Family Worship Guide

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

http://familyworshipguide.net/ is a neat site.  They offer guides for family worship.  I know that Nyssa and my self want to start but we are kinda at a loss for how.  Maybe this will help us.

They break family worship up into 4 parts.

  • Read (Family Passages & Personal Passages)
  • Pray (They use the ACTS method: Adoration  - Confession – Thanksgiving – Supplication)
  • Sing (They have some music or you can use your own)
  • Memorize (Have a short verse every week along with a Catechism)

Just from looking over it I would guess it would take about 15-20 mins to do the whole thing.

Here is a video by Voddie Baucham on the importance Family Worship.  To be honest my church does not place a high importance on family worship and that makes me sad.  But I do know several people who would also like to start so I will give this to them too.  Also I think I may keep a few extra printed out every month to hand out to people.

You Rock Guitar

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

This is pretty cool.  It’s sorta like “Guitar Hero” but with a real guitar not the funky one (so now all the time you spend playing Guitar Hero you will really be learning how to play a real guitar).  I like that the one guitar works with the PS3, Wii, X360 and PC.  You could also hook it up into amps if you want.

Genesis 6:13-16

Monday, August 24th, 2009

And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopher wood.  Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks.

Everyone loves the story of Noah.  I think Bill Cosby has the best version.

The only thing I’m wondering about is why do we have such a light view of God’s judgment?  God killed everyone on the earth except for Noah and his family and yet we treat it like a cute story.  It’s not cute, it’s a warning to us that another judgment is coming.  But anyone can be safe from this judgment.  You can be forgiven for your sins.  Jesus has paid the price for you.
