Dave Ramsey On Vacations

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I know this is going to be a big suprise to everyone, but Dave says that unless your out of debt and have the cash saved up don’t go on vacation!  Now he’s not against taking several days off to rest up, but he said instead of going some where just stay local (called it a staycation).  And he even had a cute YouTube clip of a family that ‘took there vacation home’

So it’s good that Nyssa and my self are debt free (except for the house) and that we also have a little cash saved up.  I’m planing a trip to Jack’s River falls this summar. But either way it is a rather cheap trip.  Gas and food is about it.  We are going to hike the trail that goes along the river.  It’s a two dayer and a total of 16 miles.  I know that 8 miles a day should not be hard for us but I’m not sure how crossing the river is going to effect us.  Should be fun to find out  :)

He’s so cute

A kitty in China grows a pair of wings!  Yep, guess it’s true..

But it is really cute.  Wish I could find more pics of it.

Wonder if it’s name is Ruby.  Ruby is a baby red dragon from Lunar: Eternal Blue Sega CD game.  That was a good game  :)  But anyways, I always thought she looked just like a cat with wings.

I did like the first Lunar game better..  But hey all games can’t be that awesome!

What I Believe (Version 1)

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

So in his sermon this week Pastor Don asked us to write down what we believe in a creed type of thing.  He said keep it short..  So I tried.  I let him read it yesterday and he had a few comments on it..  Said 1) it’s too long (almost 300 words) 2) I did not say anything about the Holy Spirit and 3) He said I did not talk about the fact that Jesus paid for our sins by having the wrath of the Father poured out on Him (that is that Jesus went to hell).  So thats why I’m calling this version 1, I will try to make it shorter and talk about more stuff….

————————————

I believe in God who created the world

That man, of his own free will, rebelled against his God and Creator

That due to God’s perfect righteousness and holiness man’s sin created an infinite debt of guilt

That being a created being man could never pay in full the infinite debt that is owed

And so man faces a future eternity in hell without any hope of escape

But God in order to make known the riches of His glory

Sent His Son, who being in very nature God, to His creation

Born of Mary with out an earthly father, He was given the name Jesus

This Jesus lived His life being tempted in every way yet did not sin

And that he died upon a cross and that three days later God raised Him from the dead

Being in nature God and living a sinless life

Jesus was able to pay in full by His death the infinite debt that men owed

That this act of grace is a free gift of God that He gives to men

This gift is not given by any work that men could do (other wise it would no longer be a gift)

But this gift if received by faith in the death of Jesus

That due to man sins, he is unable to believe on this Jesus by his own power

So God gives new life, called the new birth, to the people He has chosen

And that God gives this new life through the proclaiming of the ‘good news’ of His Son

And that by this new life we can believe in Jesus and are saved from our sin

And that this new birth produces acts of righteousness in the believers life

Genesis 3:8-9

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.  But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”

One thing that took me along time to understand is, what’s the big deal about God being called by masculine names.  Really, why does it matter?  And even Jesus compares Him self to a mother hen (Luke 13:34).  And so I really did not see what the big deal.

But then one day as I was reading C. S. Lewis (Sorry, I don’t remember which book) and Lewis said that “masculinity pursues femininity”.  That is that true masculinity seeks out true femininity.  We see this in old stories where the price comes for the princess.  We see it in our lives when the man asks the woman to marry him.  And we see this in God’s action to His Church and even in this passage here.  Even though Adam and Eve sinned against Him and are trying to hide from Him, God is searching for them.  And even though there will be punishment for what our first father and mother did, God will promise to them that He will provide a redemption for us.

And that’s why it’s important.  Because God seeks a relationship with us.  He acts first.  And that is what God has put at the heart of masculinity.
