Life in the Speck

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Shaun Groves has a great (short) post about life in the speck.

Genesis 1:3-2:3

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.”  And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so.  And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so.  The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.  And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so.  And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars.  And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.  And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.  And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”  And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.  And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”  And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.  And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.  And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.  And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.  So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

You know I must confess that i knew I wanted to do this whole blob of text at once but I really did not know what to say about it.  Every one knows the story, we have all seen the charts where they compare day 1-4, 2-5 & 3-6 so I did not really want to talk about that.  Then today at church Paston Don talks about this very blob of text.  So I would like to give a big thank you to God for using Pastor Don to give me something to blog about  :)

What I would like to point out is that the 7th day is different from the rest.  Every day says “And there was evening and there was morning, the (???) day.”  But not the 7th day.  This is because God’s rest is still open.  It is open for you and for me.  And how do we enter His rest?  But faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.   This is what Hebrews 3 is all about  :)

GPS the movie

Friday, March 27th, 2009

The Geocaching people sent me a e-mail and had a blurb about a new movie thats out.  It’s called GPS the movie.  I thought to my self “self, that sounds pretty cool”.  So I clicked on the link to check it out.  It could have been really cool, have some friends out doing a multi-point-puzzle type of cache.  I’m thinking something like “national treasure” only smaller scale.  But it looks like the GPS part is only a after thought.  It’s about some crazy guys who get a e-mail with the GPS cords to a boat load of cash (or something) so they go out with some friends and then some one tries to kill them.

It could have been a comedy with several groups trying to get the FTF..  Sorta like ‘The Rat Race’ that would have been cool and I could relate to it.  But sadly no  :(

Don’t Miss the Party!

A sermon by Scott Lingle.

You know Scott is going to think I don’t like him.  So far he preached twice and I missed both Sundays…  Anyways, I do get to listen to them on line.

When one of those who reclined at table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”  But he said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet and invited many.  And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’  But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.’  And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’  And another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’  So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’  And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’  And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.  For I tell you,  none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.’”

Luke 14:15-24

The good is often the worst enemy of the best.

To often we don’t want to sacrafice the good things for the better thing.  Scott gave an example of when he and April went to visit his uncle during a vacation (it was out of the way and they wanted to goto Yellow Stone).  six months later his uncle passed away.  Scott and his wife made a sacrafice of a good vacation to go and visit his uncle.  In this parable the ‘guest’ who were invited did not want to leave their ‘good things’.  Now nothing that they said they were going to do instead was bad, they were all good things.  But they missed the better thing.

I know that I’m guilty of this.  Playing games is a down fall of mine.  It’s not that it’s a bad thing.  But it’s not the best thing either.  I’m trying to do better.  But it’s hard last night I spent about 3 hours playing CivRev..  I need to learn to not start playing it after 6 p.m…  Anyways, the lesson is that I need to focus on the better things.  Like Bible study, spending time with Nyssa, prayer, spending time with my friends.

Ok, so I’m just a big kid
