Loving Jesus More

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Matthew 10:34-38

This is a hard teaching.  But one that all Christians must come to.  And for some it’s harder then for others.  My dear friend, Elisa’s grandmother just passed away Tuesday.  Her grandmother was Jewish (although she spent the last years of her life angry at God).  And for Elisa to accept Christ as who He says He is, is for her to accept that her grandmother is in hell.  And that’s hard, it’s breaking her heart.  But for Elisa to continue to follow Christ she must love Him more than her grandmother, more than her grandfather, more than the rest of her family.  And that is why Christ is saying that if we do not love Him more that we are not worthy of Him.  We can not be, for we will reject Jesus as the way, and the truth, and the life and that no one, comes to the Father except through Jesus (John 14:6) when we are faced with the death of an unbeliever whom we dearly loved.

I have not had to face this yet.  But unless God acts in my family’s hearts, I know that I will.  How we need to pray for our unbelieving family.  That they will turn from their sins and turn to Christ.  But even if they do not, we must always look to Christ.  Even though our eyes are full of tears and our hearts are broken; we must always love Christ more than any one else.  It is the only way we can follow Him.

World of Warcraft – Lorgros

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

I am a gamer at heart.  I love playing a good game and World of Warcraft is one that I keep going back to.  The last time I played I was playing it way to much, so this time I am trying to keep the time I spend on it down.  So far I’m doing a good job (only playing at night).  Nyssa said it would get in the way of my blogging but I’m really trying to keep up.  On a funny note I was just browsing through some other blogs and this one guy had lots of post then nothing for like 2 months that said “hey just wanted to let everyone know I’m still alive.  Just started playing WoW…” and then he did not have anything posted for like 4 more months.  It made me laugh.  But WoW is a very addective game so much so that one gaming site talking about Blizzard said that they must have cocaine hidden between their lines of code  :)

Some slavery feels like freedom

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

One of the TV shows that Nyssa used to watch when she was young was Fraggle Rock.  So when we saw them on Blockbuster we had to add it to our Que.  We just finished watching the first two episodes and I am really enjoying them and looking forward to watching more of them.

In episode 2 one of the main characters (Wembley) gets captured by the Gorgs.  But Wembley is a rather agreeable fellow (never wants to offend anyone by saying ‘no’) and the Gorgs (who call them selves the king and queen of the universe) are delighted by Wembley’s constant obedience.  But Wembley does not mind it, the Gorgs are nice to him and he’s happy.  However when Wembley friends come to get Wembley they are also captured by the Gorgs.  However, they refuse to bow down to the Gorgs and so the Gorgs planed to keep them caged up and make them their slaves.  Needles to say the Fraggles escape from the Gorgs and make it safely home.  At the end of the episode Gobo and Wembley are talking to each other and Wembley is apologizing for putting his friends in danger and he says “Some types of slavery feels like freedom.”

Wow, how true is that?  We are slaves of sin and so often we don’t even know that we are caged up.  Sin feeds the desires of our hearts making it so that we would never escape.  In fact just like Wembley we don’t even realize that we are slaves.  But thanks be to Christ that He has given us freedom.  As Paul says in Romans 8:2-3 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”

Barack Obama Not a U.S. Citizen?

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I’m not sure why the news is not covering this…  But a Clinton supporter is filling a injunction against Barack Obama claiming he is not a US citizen…

Birth Certificate Found in Kenya. Citizen of Kenya and Indonesia. Hawaiian Certificate Forged.

On Aug. 21st attorney Philip J. Berg requested an injunction in Federal Court against the nomination of Barack Obama, citing evidence that candidate Barack Obama is not a US citizen, and “the obvious problems that will occur when the Republican Party raises these issues after Obama is nominated.”

Berg argues that Barack Obama was born in Kenya in 1961 to an American woman, Stanley Ann Dunham, and a Kenyan man, Barack Hussein Obama Senior, as reportedly shown by a birth certificate from Mombasa Maternity Hospital. According to the law at that time, a parent could pass US citizenship on to a child born abroad if the parent was at least 19 years old. Obama’s mother was only 18.

No hospital birth certificate has been produced to show Obama was born in Hawaii, only a certificate of birth registry after the fact, which forensics experts have denounced as a forgery.

Moreover, when Obama was six years old his mother remarried and moved with her husband to his country, Indonesia. Records indicate Obama was naturalized as an Indonesian citizen. Indonesia does not allow dual nationality, so even had he been born in Hawaii, he would have lost his citizenship then.

Another

And another <===  This site claims that some of the claims have been discredited but does not say anything about Indonesia not allowing dual nationality.

So is this just a over zealous Clinton supporter (is that why he waited until after Obama picked a running mate who was not Clinton?) or is it as he claims better to do it now then to let the republicans do it later?  Let me know what you think of all of this.

Life’s Second Greatest Gift

A sermon by Pastor Don E. Mason

Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem. The people were sacrificing at the high places, however, because no house had yet been built for the name of the Lord.

Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day. And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you.  I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”

And Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up burnt offerings and peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.

1 Kings 3:1-15

So school is back and church is starting to get back to normal too.  Pastor Don is back from all his vacations we start Wednesday nights this week and youth group has started back last night.  Pastor Don is starting a sermon series on wisdom.  We started by looking at different types of wisdom.  That is is worldly wisdom and spiritual wisdom.  And it’s not that one is good and one is bad they are just different.  So Pastor Don stressed that there is good worldly wisdom and he gave some examples from sports to home remodeling.  The point was that we need wisdom is all areas of life (not just spiritual).  Then we finished with the book of James with James telling us to ask for wisdom from God our Father and He will give it to us.

To be honest this sermon seemed to drag a bit for me.  It felt like Pastor Don had to much time and not enough sermon so he just let it drag on.  But Nyssa said she did not feel this way about it so it must just be me  :)
