So I’m Rubbing Off On Nyssa

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

So I guess I’m rubbing off on Nyssa. I caught her reading Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology. It made me laugh. Anyways, I know I posted this video before but now is a good time to repost it

On a side note she has not made me burn our NIV Study Bible… Yet   :)

What Must Someone Believe To Be Saved

Wow, two John Piper videos in a week.  Whats up with that?

Happy Birthday Nyssa

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Today is my wife’s birthday.  Happy birthday Nyssa.

We had our families over today for dinner.  I cooked ribs.  It was yummy.

Also just some misc stuff.  Matthew Smith has a new CD out called ‘Watch The Rising Day’ It’s a great CD and you should check it out.  I think the best songs on it are #8 “The War” and #9 “Goodnight” (click the links to listen and read the lyrics on-line).  They are both old hymns that he updated words and music to.  The War is about sanctification and just how hard it is.  In it he says “for me it has been sore and long” we are a work in progress.  It’s not easy (has not been for me anyways).

Goodnight is an amazing song.   It’s a song about dying.  The singer is on his death bed looking to Jesus and he is saying “Goodnight” to his loved ones.  It’s a song about the promise that death is not the end and all who have put their faith in Jesus will see each other again.

And John Piper has a great video out on “Are Christians under the 10 commandments?”  I love John Piper, but the still picture they have for this video kinda looks like he’s giving lessons on how to kiss your wife  :)   It’s just kinda hard for me to look at this and not laugh.  But that aside, the message is great.

What Would God Say To The President

Monday, July 5th, 2010

This is a good sermon.  It was preached in South Africa and so he talks about South Africa but I think it’s just as true for us (in America) as it is for them or anyone else.

He makes 3 main points

  1. God has put you in power
  2. You can anticipate submissive and prayerful fellowship by Christ-following [Americans]
  3. In view of Me appointing you, lead confidently and humbly

And some other points that he made that are

  • You can never get a godly nation from law.  Only the gospel can change the hearts
  • Prayer for the president is of first importance.
  • Preserved for higher things.
  • You will give an account to God on how you lived and lead.tood out for me

You know it’s sad that so many Christians in America don’t pray for President Obama and don’t have a submissive attitude towards him.  I know Christians who publicly belittle the president and the sad part is that these people are the ones who would claim to love America the most.  Paul never said “Pray for Rome” no he said “Pray for the king”.  As Christians we are not called to love our country and hate our president.  No we are called to respect (ie, be submissive) and pray for our president and to be a foreigner in the country.

Happy 5th of July everyone, Marci did good last night.  We did not have to many fireworks around the house but we did have a few.  Gabbie was kinda freaked out but she was quit for most of it and Marci did not wake up.  So it was good.
